PostPulsar: Building a Unique SaaS Without Competitor Research
PostPulsar emerged from a content creator’s frustration with the tedious “content repurposing hell”—the manual task of adapting a single piece of content for multiple social media platforms. The author conceived an AI tool that could transform one link into numerous optimized posts for LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Discord in seconds.
A defining principle of PostPulsar’s development was a stubborn rule: no competitor research. This decision aimed to foster a solution born purely from the author’s pain and vision, uninfluenced by existing features, UIs, or pricing models. Building from first principles, though harder, resulted in an authentic tool focused solely on its core problem.
The solo development journey was a “rollercoaster” of challenges, particularly integrating with various social network APIs. The author learned that “documentation isn’t reality,” exemplified by the Instagram API, where official guidelines proved incorrect, requiring counter-intuitive solutions. Another risk encountered was technical debt, as an outdated Stripe API version necessitated a complete architectural refactor, highlighting the importance of keeping core dependencies current.
Crucially, the author wasn’t entirely alone. Gemini acted as an “unexpected copilot,” functioning as a tireless AI pair programmer. It assisted with complex backend errors, refactored UI components, and helped implement tricky asynchronous logic for video processing. Described as a Socratic partner, Gemini guided the author to ask the right questions, proving essential for overcoming major roadblocks.
Today, PostPulsar is live, embodying months of focused work, an authentic philosophy, and a unique man-machine collaboration. It successfully automates content repurposing, saving creators significant time. The challenging process of building in a vacuum ensured PostPulsar possesses its own “soul,” standing as a unique answer to a common creator problem.
